Uala Maria Lenta

CPM, Lic Midwife

I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii on an organic farm. All my siblings were born and home and I always considered home birth to be the norm. As a college student on Oahu I started to apprentice with a Naturopath Midwife; thats where it all began. From there I went on to apprentice with a Midwife on Maui. After that I ended up in southern Mexico, in a what was small town called Tulum. There I apprenticed with other midwives, while helping to build up a birth center called the Osa Mayor and learn other traditional Mexican healing arts. I also began my academic journey through an accredited college of Midwifery, National Midwifery Institute. I traveled to Africa for birth work as well as in a busy Better Birth Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Now I am a Licensed, certified professional midwife (CPM) and practice in my home town of Hoókena, on the Big Island of Hawaií. I am a mother of two boys age 2 and 12, both of which I birthed at home.

My Philosophy of birth

I believe in physiologic birth and I believe that birth happens best when least intervened. I know that birth with flow when oxytocin is abundant so I support an environment that feels loving and safe to the mother. A place that can be quiet, calm and peaceful. That being said I can be quite a hands off type of midwife. Although through my experience I know when a woman needs my guidance, support or assistance to go forward or move through something. I consider birth a very sacred moment in a woman's life, therefore I am mindful of the energy I bring and sensitive to others as well. I am honored to be a guardian of this sacred space, a gate keeper. I stand by the woman's side as she opens and allows her baby to come through her.

"The absolute best midwife on earth! Uala was my midwife with my second baby and I will never stop being grateful for the birth of my dreams thanks to a midwife that supported me every step of the way."

"Her astute awareness was refreshing when I needed it most. She had a strong faith in the birthing process and in my intuition and told me to push when I felt ready; which as pretty quickly.....out came PulelehuaMakamae, our healthy pē!!!! I am beyond thankful that she was part of our birthing team."
